In India, the drop in smartphone and data prices brought millions of users online in the last couple of years. With COVID-19, now even local commerce is going digital.

A startup named Dukaan has witnessed enormous growth in the last few months as it came to save Indian businesses during COVID-19.

Dukaan literally means ‘a Shop’ in Hindi.

It all started with a Whatsapp ping. Earlier in the lockdown, founder Suumit Shah received a message from Jockey containing a PDF of their catalogue. It read “We now start accepting orders on Whatsapp”. This got him thinking.

Summit thought — what if there was an intuitive platform that can help all small and medium businesses go online in India.

In the next 48 hours, Summit then sat down with his team to bring this crazy idea into reality — an Android app that allows shopkeepers across India to create their online store in 30 seconds.

Dukaan was a quick success.

In just 3 months, the app onboarded a million businesses and now boasts over 2.7M stores across India.
